I have arrived safe and sound in Rio! I am currently sitting in a taxi or my way to the bus terminal, marveling at Rio traffic... I'm glad to be getting out of the big city soon.
My flights all went very smoothly; I slept almost the whole way from Miami to Rio (8.5 hour flight), but spent about an hour and a half towards the end looking out the window. From what I saw, Brazil looks very brown, except for the green agriculture fields. We hear about the horrible rates of deforestation, but it's another thing to see huge expanses of this country lying there brown and seemingly lifeless.
My entry into Brazil went smoothly, but I whoever designed the airport designed it in such a way that people exiting the plane have to walk about a mile and a half to get anywhere, at least that's what it felt like.
Once I reach the bus terminal, a whole new sort of adventure begins, one in which I may need to speak Portuguese(?)! I've been too scared to speak it to anybody yet but I hope that changes.
I have limited data service so I can't upload any pictures, but when I reach Iracambí tonight I'll make another post with some pictures from the trip. Until then, cião!
